Wardrobe gems – Week 1 wrap-up

I had a fair crack at participating in the Photo A Day Challenges set by Fat Mum Slim but by the end it was getting harder to maintain and it wasn’t fulfilling me, creatively, as it was in the beginning. I think I did about 5 months worth. I still like watching the results of the people I follow on Instagram as they continue to play along with the challenge and it has at times, made me wish I was playing along too.
When our friend Kelly from The Storybook Rabbit/Made By White decided to throw a new Photo A Day challenge out into the Instagram ether that was all surrounding those clothing gems gracing our wardrobes, I knew I had to take part! Kelly seemed to be sticking with a vintage theme for this month, so I’ve tried to do this as well. It’s helping me decided what to photograph and to be honest, it is what is predominantly in my wardrobe anyway.
Day 1 – Granny square cardi. This is super heavy and very warm. I got it from a Mission Australia garage sale just recently and whipped it out for it’s first wearing (on me) for this month’s Suitcase Rummage.

Day 2 – Mexican embroidered tunic. My Wedding Dress. I bought this dress specifically for our wedding. I wanted something white, something vintage, something ME and something that would fit a pretty huge pregnant belly under it. It ticked all the boxes. I do have a tendency to whip it out on our wedding anniversary and other special occasions but that’s about it. Maybe one day I’ll throw it on for a Kindergarten drop off.

Day 3 – Blue and white kaftan. This beauty is so comfortable and fun. I have always worn it as a bit of a special occasion dress – 30th birthdays, Jon’s work functions and Sarah Blasko concerts. I love teaming it with red accessories and shoes. It set me back a whopping 50c at a Church thrift shop garage sale.

Day 4 – My “Captain Obvious” scarf. Jon picked this one out to be my wardrobe gem of the day. I love the colours of this scarf and the fact that is actually says what it is (several times) just in case I forget :P I found this scarf in a thrift shop in Childers on our road trip to Blackwater.

Day 5 – Vintage brown and orange jumper. Unlike a lot of my vintage knitwear, this one has a bit of length in the body. Is great for wearing with pants.

Day 6 – Dusty pink and cream knitted vest. The print reminds me of little dusty pink cow heads.

Day 7 – Red and white Jonathan Summers of Sydney vintage dress. Given to me by my darling Jasmin of Made By April Born. I just LOVE this dress! Oh and please excuse the pose on the right. I had a handful of sultanas for the little one in one hand AND I was bracing myself against the cold wind.

If you want to play along, upload your wardrobe gems on Instagram using any of these hashtags (#wardrobegems, #mywardrobegems, #mywardrobegemsjuly or #wardrobegemsjuly) and also mention us (@sconnieandjam and @kid_coco for Jon) so we can check it out too.
